The subjective character of urbanity invites to differentiate actors: urban experiences are shaped by the identity of individuals and groups, their ethnic, social and religious background, their dreams, agendas and values. Our main interest lies in grasping and analysing the essential contribution of religion to this complex and intertwined formation of urbanity (and vice versa). Der subjektive Charakter von Urbanität lädt uns ein, Akteure zu differenzieren: Städtische Erfahrungen werden durch die Identität von Individuen und Gruppen, ihren ethnischen, sozialen und religiösen Hintergrund, ihre Träume, Ziele und Werte geprägt. Unser Hauptinteresse liegt darin, den wesentlichen Beitrag der Religion zu dieser komplexen und verflochtenen Formierung von Urbanität (und umgekehrt) zu erfassen und zu analysieren. Mit anderen Worten: Unsere Perspektive auf Urbanität und das Urbane wird durch das Prisma des Religiösen strukturiert.
